Since the beginning of our restoration journey, the exterior tuck pointing has been a major concern. Few people have the skills necessary to accomplish this much needed repair.

2011 Tuck-pointing

The Friends of St. Rose, Inc., hire a Christoph Henning to both repoint limestone mortar joints that had failed and replace actual broken limestones on the bell tower. Christoph Henning is a stone carver and restoration specialist from Connecticut. He is originally from Germany and his commissions include the New York Public Library and the Victorian Mansion in Portland, Maine. It seemed obvious that he was the perfect artisan to lead this project. We were able to repoint approximately 50% of the areas that need repointing and replace ten broken limestones on the bell tower before our allocated funds were depleted. We hope to raise enough money this year to complete this project next summer.

Window Restoration Completed 2009
(120)
-
All eight of the nine-foot tall stained glass windows were removed for restoration during the spring and summer of 2009. We are happy to announce that all of these restored windows were completed and installed on December 2, 2009, just in time for the 7th Annual Candle Lighting Ceremony. Plaques will be made to thank the dozens of sponsors who made this possible and to recognize each of their memorials. View this gallery of photos to see the many steps involved to accomplish this major achievement.

Storm Window Restoration
(16)
-
For over one hundred years, ten storm windows have protected the stained glass within St. Rose from the harsh elements of Minnesota weather. We were able to preserve all of the original millwork while restoring these storm windows. In 2008, hundreds of hours were spent as we carefully removed the windows and glass panes one at a time, carefully sanding every edge of the framing, removing glazing, oil priming, painting, reinserting glass, glazing, and top coat painting. Marvin Bronner and many other volunteers restored these severely weathered storm windows which prepares us for the interior stained glass window restoration to come in 2009.
